(Fun fact: I wrote this during a writing evaluation of a job interview.)
To make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich,
You’ll need a piece bread or two.
Then there’s the type of peanut butter.
Creamy is usually my go-to.
Did you decide on the jelly you want?
There are lots of flavors you can pick.
Apricot, blueberry, orange marmalade,
Or strawberry’s usually the best trick.
I prefer my bread toasted.
Then I take a butter knife to use,
Spreading the tan goodness on my bread
And seeing the peanut butter really ooze.
Repeat the same directions for jelly
On the other piece of bread.
Now the real magic can happen.
These next directions must be carefully read.
With an open face sandwich
Now on each palm,
Blink your eyes, and check your vision.
To do this, you must be calm.
Stretch your mouth. Open wide.
Enunciate the numbers 1 to 5.
Wiggle your nose as best you can.
Now we’re ready for the dive.
Go ahead and prepare yourself,
For the melding of the two.
Match peanut butter and jelly sides.
They should stick to each other like glue.
Hurrah! You did it!
The process is complete.
Will you hand me that sandwich now?
It’s time for me to eat.
